Donna Michaels -release day for 'Captive Hero'

I'm so happy to welcome Donna Michaels to my blog today.  Happy release day, Donna, and congratulations.  Put your feet up. get something delicious from the replicator and tell us about yourself and your book.

Donna:   Thanks so much for having me here today. I’m excited and nervous about my first ever self-published release. But this story is special.

Several years ago, I started writing CAPTIVE HERO as a submission to HQN Blaze, of all things. I'd heard they were entertaining the idea of acquiring time-shift novels. But, then I snagged a pitch meeting with Kate Duffy from Kensington at RT Pittsburg, so I changed the story to a novella. She requested the full, but bless her, she died unexpectedly before giving me a yes or no. I didn't have the heart to do anything with it for awhile, so it sat on my hard drive until this summer after I talked to Sky Purington about self-publishing. I dusted it off, lengthened (it's now 346 print pages), changed the ending to what I wanted and viola--Captive Hero (Book One in my Time-shift Heroes Series) was done.

I'm trying to swim with the big fishes here. lol CH isn't exactly your cookie cutter book. I didn't have to conform the story so it's a little different than anything else I have published. It’s hotter, sexier, and…well, different. I'm really excited and scared about it. Hoping it's well received. I paid an editor to go through it (thrilled to find Stacy D. Holmes freelanced) and she loved it. A lot. So, that made me feel a little easier about going out-side the box on this one.

Bio:
I’m happily married to a military man for over 26 years. We have four children and several rescued cats. My oldest son is married to a wonderful girl who is in her second year of law school. My twin boys are in college, and my daughter is a junior in high school. Yes, life is never dull around our house.

Reading romance was always a joy to me, and once my daughter entered first grade and I had the house to myself during the day—I started writing romance. Now, several years later, I’m multi-published in eBook and print. I write from short to epic in several romance genres, and am now branching out into self-publishing.

So interesting to learn more about you, Donna.  Now let's see your stunning cover and find out more about the story itself.

Blurb:
When Marine Corp test pilot, Captain Samantha Sheppard accidentally flies back in time and inadvertently saves the life of a WWII VMF Black Sheep pilot, she changes history and makes a crack decision to abduct him back to the present. With the timeline in jeopardy, she hides the handsome pilot at her secluded cabin in the Colorado wilderness.
But convincing her sexy, stubborn captive that he is now in another century proves harder than she anticipated—and soon it becomes difficult to tell who is captor and who is captive when the more he learns about the future, the more Sam discovers about the past, and the soul-deep connection between them.
As their flames of desire burn into overdrive, her flying Ace makes a historical discovery that threatens her family’s very existence. Sam’s fears are taken to new heights when she realizes the only way to fix the time-line is to sacrifice her captive hero...or is it?
Can love truly survive the test of time?

Excerpt:

Excitement momentarily stamped out her apprehension. Holy smokes. They actually did it. She and Maria were the first to go invisible.
And back to World War II.
“I told you Brad was full of surprises,” Maria stated.
Stretching her free hand out in front, Sam walked forward until her palm met smooth, warm metal. Wow. Just like science fiction. Her shoulders dropped. Only, this wasn’t a movie and no gorgeous, bald, muscle-bound hero would save the day. It was up to her.
“Well, I hope Brad has a surprise to take us back home.” Sam reentered the craft and shut the door. After a few deep, clean breaths, she realized her friend was staring with wide eyes.
“Of course he will. There’s no alternative. If this is 1943 like that voice said, then we don’t belong here. We could change people’s timelines…their very existence. If we interfere, people could vanish from our time. We could vanish.” A long curl broke free from Maria’s regulation barrette as her auburn head shook hard. “No. We must do whatever it takes to get back to our present without interacting with anyone here. Including your grandfather.”
Sam’s chin snapped up.
“Yes. I know you think the Shep on the radio is your grandfather, and the crazy thing is…I think you’re right. But that’s all the more reason to remain unnoticed.”
Sam’s chest tightened until breathing became painful. “I agree. We can’t stay, but neither can Captain Mitchell. He was supposed to die today.”
A deep V wrinkled Maria’s brow. A sight rarely seen on her good-natured friend.
“How do you know? Maybe that Zero was only supposed to hit him a few times.” Maria approached, dark eyes hopeful. “He could’ve outmaneuvered or—”
“No. On December 28th 1943 Captain Anthony Mitchell went down in a dogfight over the South Pacific,” Sam recited the aged statement word for word. “He was supposed to die today. My grandfather told me. In fact, I know when each and every Black Sheep died or went MIA.”
Maria closed her eyes and exhaled. “This isn’t good.”
“No. Not at all.” Sam rubbed her temples, wracking her brain once again for a solution.
Her friend’s eyes snapped open. “You have to kill him.”
And that wasn’t it.
“No.”  She’d already had the perfect opportunity and was unable to pull the trigger.
“Yes,” Maria countered. “Look, you said it yourself, Sams. He doesn’t belong here now. His survival will change the course of history, and who knows what will happen.” Jamming her hands on her hips, her copilot frantically paced the ten-by-ten-foot cockpit.
Sam had never seen Maria so upset. Another first for the infallible Lieutenant.
With her dark gaze focused on the floor, the petite bombshell continued to ramble.  “Maybe he does something to allow more terrorists to attack, or…or serial killers. Or a President’s assassination. No.” She stopped, strode straight back to Sam, and grabbed her upper arms. “We can’t let him live. If the captain was supposed to die today and we just screwed that up, then we have to make it right. We have to kill him.”
Bile rose up Sam’s throat, souring her taste buds. “No!” She jerked out of Maria’s grasp and stumbled to the front of the craft to look out at the picturesque island—so calm, so tranquil.
So full of horrors.
“I can’t kill him, Maria. I won’t kill him.” Her gut clenched at the very thought. “He’s a hero. A Marine. He doesn’t deserve to die.”
God, she could never…
“Well, what are we going to do? We can’t let him change history.” Maria walked over, leaned back against the hull and pinched the bridge of her nose. “I don’t want to kill him either. What other option do we have?”
“Wait.” Sam cocked her head and tapped her chin, a small niggle of an idea taking root in her brain. “Technically, the captain just needs to go MIA and be removed from this time.”
“Oh ho ho. Wait a minute. Hold on, girlfriend. What are you saying?” Maria dropped her hand and straightened, alarm darkening her already dark gaze. “You’re not thinking of doing what I think you’re thinking of doing…are you?” Her eyes widened. “Oh my God. You are! You’re going to kidnap that man and take him to the twenty-first century!”
Thanks Donna, this sounds like a wonderful story - congratulations again and wishing you many, many sales.

Burned Into Time - The Latest Release from Mary Ricksen

I'm thrilled to be able to announce that Mary Ricksen's latest time travel romance BURNED INTO TIME is now available to pre-order.  If you enjoyed Mary's first book 'Tripping Through Time', you'll love this second book, and although it's a 'stand alone' story, and it's not necessary to have read the first in order to enjoy the second, I can thoroughly recommend 'Tripping Through Time' as well - but let's find out some more about 'Burned Into Time' - and don't forget to read about Mary herself at the end, too.

BURNED INTO TIME
Blurb:

A horrific car accident, a Celtic ring and destiny, send a young woman on a journey to the past. In a desperate search for her lost sister, she follows the instructions left her in a bank vault from a hundred years ago.

Little did she know the ring would save her life and change it in ways she could never imagine. Does she have the strength to live through her nightmare and find her destiny?

Excerpt

So cold--oh so cold, and pain, horrible pain… Her head and face burned while her feet and hands froze.  How odd, her body seemed, so tired, so weak. This dream couldn’t be real. A trip, the lodge… the car, she’d been in the car. It really happened!

Opening her eyes became sheer torture. They’d swollen and made it almost impossible to see. After a bit, her vision cleared enough to distinguish things around her. Snow fell gently. It touched her lashes and turned them white and frosty. I can’t feel a thing.

Lying on the ground wasn’t good for a person. What am I doing here?

Then it hit her. Blythe! Her brain screamed what her voice could not. An accident, their car went over a cliff. Blythe had died and there’d be no bringing her back.

Lacy’s slim grasp of reality left her confused. Blythe could not be dead.

Her face, something wasn’t right with her face. Bare hands touched her head, and she screamed. Part of her hair was gone. She looked at her hand and saw blood mixed with long strands of half-burned auburn curls.

King! Her heart pounded as she reached out for him. Her right arm burned painfully; she cringed when she saw it. Lacy used her unburned arm to feel for King.

He kissed her with a wet, warm tongue. She looked at him and recoiled at the singed fur and burns on one side of his once glistening coat. He whimpered, but stood and licked her face.

“Go for help, King. Go get help.”

Her faithful dog pleaded with his eyes and whined in anguish as she told him to leave.

“Go King, I’ll be okay, go boy. Good dog. Go. Get help…” Her eyes fluttered and she heard him whimper. She had to make sure he understood before she passed out.

With one last whine and hesitation, King turned to her. With the last of her strength, she waved him to leave and he limped off. She watched him go, looking to save her, looking for help, looking…

Darkness settled upon her pain laced mind.

AUTHOR'S BIO:
Mary M. Ricksen was born in Vermont. She has lived in many places and is now a resident of Florida. She has been married forever and lives with her husband, two German Shepherds, and the boss, one Calico kitty. Always hoping to leave a legacy behind, Mary began writing and had her first book published in 2009. Having a great love of the mountains and, Lake Champlain, in Vermont, Burned Into Time, takes place in the wilds of the Green Mountains. Mary is a member of the Florida Romance Writers, the RWA and is a former secretary to her local chapter.

"I always wanted to do something in my life that I could be proud of. I painted, I played the guitar, the violin, and even tried piano. Time spent making stained glass pieces, left me with cuts on my hands. Singing in a band, riding horses, I tried it all in the endeavor to be a success. Then I reached inside and found words. I started to write the kind of story that to me, meant happily ever after. I learned that I didn't know a thing about writing romance. The authors I met encouraged me, but there was a lot to learn and in fact there still is.

I got my first book published and I can lay claim to that! Now, I have written a new one and it's called Burned Into Time. Do I feel validated, well in a way. But, to really feel that way, I will wait to see what readers think. Have I been successful, time will tell. But, I do know this. It was a hard road and it gave me the confidence to know, that giving up, is never an option. Because, I am as successful as I let myself be."

Across The Winds Of Time - Bess McBride Book Tour

I'm thrilled to welcome Bess McBride, author of ACROSS THE WINDS OF TIME as my guest!
Bess will be giving away a $25 Amazon gift card to one random commenter during her tour, so don't forget to leave a comment!

BLURB:

While on a genealogical research journey through the Midwest, Molly Hamilton impulsively buys a 100-year-old Victorian house in the middle of a cornfield, and falls in love with the house’s owner...the original owner, that is. Can he be a ghost? The handsome, intriguing attorney certainly feels solid—and somehow her soul knows she has always loved him.

Darius Ferguson has no idea how he has come to present-day Iowa. The last thing he knew, the year was 1880, and he had just buried his fiancée, who happens to look exactly like Molly. He cannot separate the two women in his heart—to him, they are one.

In spite of being drawn to him, Molly thinks Darius is unhinged. Darius wonders if he has joined his fiancée in purgatory. If time travel is possible, will love be enough to build a future together?

EXCERPT

“Molly, wait!”

I froze in place for a moment.  It was definitely a man under the tree though I couldn’t see his face...and he knew my name.

“Do I know you?” I called in an unsteady voice.  It seemed, though, as if my words were taken by the wind.  Who was this man?  And how did he know my name?

He moved away from the tree with a tentative step.  His clothing was formal—a dark suit and white shirt—as if he had just been to a funeral.  I hadn’t remembered seeing a canopy for a funeral on the grounds, but I wasn’t about to take my eyes off the stranger for one instant to confirm that suspicion.

I thought I saw a flash of white teeth from under his dark mustache, but he was still some distance away.  Golden highlights in his chestnut hair caught the sunlight, and my mouth dropped open.  He was undoubtedly one of the most handsome men I had ever seen in my life.  My stomach rolled over at the sight of him, though not with admiration of his good looks.  Cold sweat broke out on my forehead, and I put my hand to my mouth as if to hold back the morning’s breakfast...if I’d had any.

For here—in the flesh—was the man of my dreams.  Not just any dreams.  More specifically, my dreams of the previous evening.  Yet I couldn’t for the life of me remember ever seeing him before until this moment.

“Be careful what you wish for,” I muttered behind the hand that covered my face.

“Molly, don’t be afraid.  I can see that you are.  I don’t want to frighten you.”  He took another step forward and held his hands up palms out...as if to show me he wasn’t armed, I thought hysterically, or to calm me down.  Either way, it wasn’t working.

AUTHOR Bio:
Bess McBride made her first serious writing attempt when she was 14. She shut herself up in her bedroom one summer while obsessively working on a time travel/pirate novel set in the beloved Caribbean of her youth, but she wasn't able to hammer it out on a manual typewriter (oh yeah, she's that old) before it was time to go back to school. The draft of that novel has long since disappeared, but the story is still simmering within, and she will finish the adventure one day soon. Bess was born in Aruba to American parents and lived in Venezuela until her family returned to the United States when she was 12. She couldn't fight the global travel bug within and joined the U.S. Air Force at 18 to "see the world." After 21 wonderful and fulfilling years traveling the world and gaining one beautiful daughter, she pursued her dream of finally getting a college education. With a license in mental health therapy, she worked with veterans and continues to work on behalf of veterans. She writes romantic suspense, contemporary, light paranormal/fantasy and time travel romances and currently has eight novels published. She can be contacted through her web site at http://www.bessmcbride.com.
