My blogging this month has been haphazard to say the least and I apologise. My excuse is it's NaNoWriMo and I've been hard at it writing 50,000 plus words. I wasn't going to participate this year, since I already have two NaNo novels to edit - but my husband insisted I make it a 'hat trick' and cunningly placed a large bar of Toblerone on the top shelf of my bookcase well out of my reach, as an incentive. So I took an idea for a short story, dusted it off, added some more characters...I'm glad to report that tonight I've devoured a large part of that chocolate bar and downloaded my 'winners' certificate.'

Congratulations to all the other winners, and to those who didn't quite make it to the finishing line, you're still a winner for simply attempting it. It's a huge adrenaline rush with highs and lows. I for one had serious doubts at times that I'd made the 25,000 mark, let alone the 50,000!
Normal service will now be resumed as soon as possible! :)

Congratulations on finishing! Wow! I didn't hear about it until it was too late- but it sounds like quite the challenge. I think anyone who participates should pat themselves on the back. It is certainly motivation to write, write, write. I love your husband's idea of a hat trick. :) Chocolate is always a good review! Great job finishing!

Hi Jess, thanks so much. Yes, Nano is a bit mad but fantastic motivation, and I agree that just participating is a temendous achievement.
ReplyDeleteHere's the link for anyone who fancies registering for future events.

I am so proud of you as always. But, didn't you ever hear of a step ladder?
ReplyDeleteOr did he hide it? LOL! You're amazing my friend!
Thank you so much for your sweet words and support, Mary dear friend. The trouble was - the bookcase rests on top of my desk, at the back, with the pc, keyboard and printer in front, and no place to put a ladder, LOL. (And before you ask, if I'd risked standing on the desk I'd have probably trodden on the printer or keyboard, apart from breaking my neck, LOL!)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you finally your hard work pay off. Keep up the good work and stay motivated to keep producing amazing works!

Thanks so much Adel!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on winning.
ReplyDeleteI didn't participate this year because I am working my way through 3 stories that need edits.
Plus I added 2 short stories from submission calls. But now my brain doesn't want to move from edit mode into create mode and I'm slow on writing. Sigh. Never an easy path.
Hi Beth -
ReplyDeletewow, editing three stories certainly wouldn't give you a lot of time for NaNo - and two stories, gosh I think that's even more of an achievement than Nano! I actually find it's a great way of getting a good basic outline, because it's certainly not going to be good enough for a novel as it stands, but it's a beginning middle and end, and 50,000 odd more words than I had at the beginning of November!
